bah... another sappy Harry/Remus story. Here we go.
I Love You Came Too Late
Multi-colored spells were thrown from both sides, each creating different effects. One witch's leg was blown off, a wizard fell to the cold ground, dead. Et cetera.
Harry Potter weaved between the dead and living bodies, searching for Lord Voldemort. He glanced back and saw his godfather battle with another Death Eater that tried to attack Harry. His other friends were in a circle, tossing curses and hexes at the Death Eaters. Remus Lupin and Severus Snape had teamed up and were dueling two others.
Harry had fallen in love with Remus two years ago and had convinced himself that Remus wouldn't want him. He had hung around Sirius and Severus too much. Harry had a bad feeling that the three men were involved with each other. He knew that Sirius and Severus were.
Turning around, he came face to face with Voldemort. The snake-like face was twisted into a grin.
"Time to die, Potter."
~*~*~*~*~
Remus Lupin combed the battlefield along with Sirius, Snape, Ron, Hermione, and the other survivors of the D.A. He desperately flipped over bodies and checked them. He would sigh with relief when the bodies were not that of Harry Potter.
Ever since Harry went into his fifth year, Remus found himself thinking the young boy was attractive. He kept his feelings to himself, but they had slowly grown deeper. Too disgusted with himself, he hung around Sirius and Snape. At times he would join them in their activities, but he mostly wallowed in his grief.
"Poor Dean," Hermione commented as Remus flipped Dean's body over.
"Harry!" Sirius shouted, too impatient at the searching's results.
"He's probably fine," said Snape, wrapping an arm around his love's waist. He slowly became friends with Sirius' godson, but still didn't like the boy... no, man.
Ginny went ahead to see if she could find him. She came to the site where she last saw Harry and Voldemort. She gasped at the sight of the ashes covering the area. Slowly backing up, she gave a shriek when she bumped into something solid. Turning around, Ginny gave a scream.
"HARRY!"
~*~*~*~*~
Remus stood outside the hospital room where Harry was lying in the bed. He was hooked up to some instruments Poppy Pomfrey had set up.
No one was allowed in except Dumbledore and Pomfrey. Everyone else was piled outside the door, anxiously peering into the window to see what was going on.
"He did it," whispered Ginny. "Harry killed Voldemort. That's why there was ash all over. Voldemort's body exploded."
Hermione wrinkled her nose, a mental image peeking into her mind. "Sounds gross."
Everyone jumped when they heard the blinds close, shutting off their view of the boy they cared for. Sirius buried himself into Snape's arms, his face pressed into the man's chest.
"He must survive," he said desperately. "He's the Boy-Who-Lived, for Merlin's sake!" Snape's arms tightened around his lover.
Remus bowed his head. He couldn't handle seeing Harry lay so still on the bed. He desperately wished for the vibrant younger man to come bursting from the room, saying that everything was alright. He wished for Harry to come over to him and kiss him silly. To fuck him through the mattress.
Dumbledore exited from the room, looking stricken. Everyone glimsped the headmaster's face and noticed a tear roll down the wrinkled face.
"Poppy says that Harry has until tomorrow night to live," he said softly but to everyone it seemed that he was shouting it outloud. "She also says that we need to say our goodbye's. We are not to be there when he..." More silver tears leaked from his blue eyes.
"No..." Remus replied. He glanced around wildly. "No!"
"Remus..." said the headmaster.
"He can't die!" Remus practically screamed. "He can't because..." He swallowed the thick lump that had gathered in his throat.
Everyone knew that Remus had feelings for Harry. They had tried to get Remus to admit his feelings, but the werewolf was too stubborn.

Slowly people were let him to give Harry their last goodbye. Remus almost freaked out again when he saw Sirius exit, with Snape dragging the man.
Finally, it was his time. At sunset. On Harry's last few hours.
He swallowed and entered the room. It was slightly dark, except for the candle by Harry's bedside. The younger man was awake, but looked so weak.
Whe he closed the door, Harry looked at him and gave a weak smile.
"Remus," he replied weakly, then burst into a fit of coughing.
"Save your breath, Harry," Remus said, approaching the dying man. Tears started falling down his cheeks.
Harry's hand reached up and wiped the tears from his face. Remus unconsciously leaned into the touch, his breathing a little more uneven.
"I-I never got to t-tell you," replied Harry. He took in a breath. "I l-love you. Always h-have."
More hot tears fell from his gray eyes. Remus leaned forward and pressed their lips together. Harry happily returned the kiss.

Not one, but two bodies were buried the next week. Remus apparently couldn't handle Harry's death and had killed himself the day after. It turned out that Harry was Remus' mate, according to Remus' letter. He couldn't go on without his mate.
Sirius followed shortly after the funeral. He couldn't handle losing his best friend and his godson. Snape could be found, crying over his lover's grave everyday.
